Avantgarde Doom, Stoner/Doom From their 1998 formation as a Grindcore act, Tokyo's King Goblin have steadily become more eclectic, pulling in influences from Psychedelic Rock, Death Metal, Trad/Stoner Doom, Prog Metal, Heavy Rock and Jazz. Most of the demos and both albums to date show a strong affinity for heavy Trad-based Psych/Doom, but throw in a lot of avant-garde and jazzy digressions as well. Weird, but likely appealing to those who enjoy early '70s experimental Heavy Rock. |

Cryptozoology (2016) |
Initially a four-piece, the band became a trio in 2002, using twin guitars & drums. From 2004 onwards this became a guitar, bass and drums line-up. Founding guitarist Masashi Suzuki left in 2009 and Kelly Churko (Hospital, AKBK) replaced him. Unfortunately Churko contracted cancer in 2013, leading to his death in 2014 and replacement with new guitarist Marcy (ex-Inside Charmer). Second album 'Cryptozoology' is dedicated to Churko. |
