Genre not specified S.o.M. (which is an abbrevation for "sons of Medjimurje") is a Croatian six-piece with a distinct sound. Their doom metal can best be described as an ethnic doom/death with a grooving Cathedralian touch and etheral female vocals accompanied by male growls. The vocals in particular remind one of Unholy and Black Lodge. On this basis the band often add even more elements such as excessively heavy doom/stoner in the YOB vein or Esotericish funeral doom. The band claims to be strongly influenced by local folk songs and aspires "to transmit cultural heritage to younger generations who love heavy metal, also to send out a message to older generations that music which is hard and heavy in expression does not have to be destructive in substance" (from the bands homepage). |
