My Dying Bride

United Kingdom - Active.

Death/Doom, Gothic/Doom

Without doubt the biggest Doom juggernaut to this day. My Dying Bride is the best known of the famous "Peaceville three" and for a large part responsible for the second generation of Doom Metal bands (Death/Doom). They also still stand as the biggest example of this style and are an inspiration for dozens of other bands that followed in their wake. Their album 'Turn Loose the Swans' is one of the most important Death/Doom Metal releases and should not be missing from any Doom freak's collection. The band was one of the first, if not the first, to use a full time violinist to compliment their music and experimented with the combination of grunts and clean vocals at a very early point in their musical career. Earlier work has more of a death metal feel to it while later work became more accessible.

Violinist Martin Powell left after 'Like Gods of the Sun' and the band did not take on a new one until their 'For Lies I Sire' album in 2009. Since then, Martin has also played in Cradle of Filth, Cryptal Darkness, as well as Anathema on their 'Alternative 4' album. Also note that '34.788 percent...Complete' is a controversial album that is rather unlike anything else they did before or afterwards. - Current members Hamish Glencross and Shaun Steels used to play in Solstice
