Death/Doom, Funeral Doom Russia's Вой/Voj (Howl) seemed intent on forging their own interpretation of Winter's 'Oppression Freedom Oppression' by hammering it with the Swiss underground ( Hellhammer / Samael / Mordor ). If the information that's available is accurate, this makes Voj one of the first bands to record such slow & torturous doom and makes them contemporaries to Thergothon & Mordor, but Voj was undoubtedly of questionable influence to the doom scene worldwide since their '91 demo was unreleased and only traded amongst collectors inside the Soviet Union, nevertheless Voj could be an important chapter in doom metal, recorded during a time that would of made it very difficult to be heard outside their country's iron curtain. |
Кругами вечности | 1991 | Self-released | Tape |
Voj could be viewed as one of the loosely defined funeral doom prototypes (necro schizma), though not seminal. |
