Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard

United Kingdom - Active.

Description

Sludge/Doom

At first glance, one could easily make the mistake that Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard is yet another goofy, weed-obsessed, knock-off of the many Stoner/Doom bands that recycle riffs from Electric Wizard or Sleep. However, in spite of the rather silly name, MWWB are not to be taken lightly whatsoever. Their style consists of very bleak Sludge/Doom Metal with cold sounding riffage, an esoteric atmosphere, and angelic female cleans. Whereas a lot of Doom bands with female vocals will be very sultry and "witchy" sounding, vocalist Jessica Ball has a very light and high vocal range that gives the music more of an astral, otherworldly vibe. Basically, imagine if bands Conan or Ocean were to replace the gravelly shouts and grunts of their vocalists, with crystal clear, enchanting female cleans... and that is Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard.
