Atmospheric Doom Absolutely stunning atmospheric slightly funeral doomish music. Like many Funeral Doom bands this also is a one man project, but musically Somnium Mortuum differs quite a bit from other bands lumped into this genre. This act is hard to categorise comfortably, but is best described as atmospheric doom. Somnium Mortuum describes it himself as "Ambient doom" and the music is quite atmospheric and indeed also has a lot of ambient elements. The metal element however is ever present as well, as is a more uptempo in nature (there are horrifically slow sections as well). The band sounds a bit like a mixture between Empyrium, Shape of Despair and Pantheist. Exceptionally well executed music and sadly overlooked until now. An absolute must listen for fans of atmospheric doom! |
