Quick introductory interview.

Interview with Shakhtyor.

1. Who are you and how did the band get started?

We are SHAKHTYOR, an instrumental three-piece from Hamburg/Germany. We started back in 2009 after our old band had split. It took us some time to actually bring ideas we had in mind into a shape so it took until 2011 until we finally emerged from our rehearsal room to play live.

2. Why did you choose Doom, and how would you describe your style

All three of us had been listening to Doom, Sludge and all those related genres for quite some time and after we had been playing rather fast music over the years we were really eager for a drastic change. In fact, „real“ Doomheads do not consider our music to be Doom, it probably lacks some epic. We see ourselves located somewhere in the Bermuda triangle of Doom, Sludge and Post Metal, covering a large range of atmospheres and speed, if you take for example our new songs Schlagwetter and Zerfall as extremes.

3. What would you consider to be the high point of your career so far?

Well, that is hard to answer, as there have been many great events so far. It was definitely amazing to share the stage with Ufomammut, but it was fantastic to play the Misty Mountain Festival 2 years ago where due to some lucky coincidences we suddenly saw ourselves on stage in the what I would consider best slot. Saturday night 10 pm instead of playing at some point in the afternoon. The place was packed and 300 people who had never heard of us before went crazy. We partied hard after that...

4. Which three bands most influenced you?

Neurosis, Entombed, Ufomammut

5. What are your plans for the near future?

We have just released our second album Tunguska and can't wait to play the songs live. We have a number of shows in Germany and also Austria in the second half of the year. And we will for sure start writing new stuff for our third album pretty soon as we don't want to have another 3 years before releasing a new album as it was between the first and the second one.

6. If there is anything you would like to add, the last words are yours.

Stay curious, do not limit yourselves to listening to the same kind of music over and over. There is so much to discover, you only have to take your time!
