Quick introductory interview.

Interview with The Seeds Of Datura.
1. Who are you and how did the band get started?

We are ‘The Seeds of Datura’, a six-piece Progressive Death-Doom band hailing from the chilly highlands of Limuru in Kenya. We began as a group of friends just jamming together in June 2016 but after we played our first gig in August and composed our first track we decided we liked playing together and decided to make it an official band.

2. Why did you choose Doom, and how would you describe your style?

We decided to play doom metal because it’s the music all of us enjoy listening to in the first place. We’ve always been enchanted by the atmospheres and moods created by most of the bands we fancy and so it only seemed logical that we would play this music albeit developing our own personal idiom which draws from other styles as well.

3. What would you consider to be the high point of your career so far?

The high point of our career thus far would have to be playing at the second edition of ‘This Is Africa Festival’ in March 2017. The event took place in Nairobi and we had the opportunity to share the stage with the American hardcore punk band ‘Stick To Your Guns’ (the first band of its kind to play in Kenya) alongside other hugely prolific local rock and metal acts including Crystal Axis, SEISMIC and RASH.

4. Which three bands most influenced you?

All of us in the band listen to different bands/styles of doom metal as well as other genres so picking only three bands seems very limiting. But If we had to make such a narrowed down list we would go with Katatonia, Nox Aurea and In Oath

5. What are your plans for the near future?

We are currently in studio working on our first full-length album titled ‘Alkaloids’ which we plan to release later this year while also playing lots of shows locally to hone our style but we are also keen on beginning to tour and play shows outside our home country from next year. Still working on the logistics for that.

6. If there is anything you would like to add, the last words are yours.

Oh yeah.. Kenyan metal is about to be transformed forever and we are very keen to leave our footprints on the sands of global metal so watch this space. Stay heavy m/
