Quick introductory interview.

Interview with Transylvania Stud.

1. Who are you and how did the band get started?

I’m Andrew Godfrey. I started Transylvania Stud on accident. I was writing a lot of heavy material that I couldn’t use for a band I had been in for the last decade. So, after writing a tune I thought was really cool, I called my producer J. Hall and asked him if he’d record some weird and heavy stuff I was writing. We knocked it out “The Red Queen” in 3 days. Also worth noting, that the Album art, Lyrics, and general theme of TRQ was inspired by photographer Jake Cobb and model Eydis who did an awesome photo set called “The Red Queen”. After seeing that image, I was so blown away, I contacted Eydis and asked how I could use it.

2. Why did you choose Doom, and how would you describe your style?

I have a few friends in the Dayton OH doom scene (Stephen and crew from Close the Hatch in case anyone was wondering) that kind of inspired me to do heavier stuff. I’d say doom was the foundation: A# tuning, big drums, lots of effects. But, I love stoner rock bands like Kyuss, noise rock bands like barkmarket, and alt rock bands like Failure, so I wanted to try and make something that’s a little bit of all of them. Doom-desert-hard, rock? I dunno. I just hope people dig it.

3. What would you consider to be the high point of your career so far?

Landing my deal with Transcending Records was definitely a high point. They’re incredibly supportive and want me to see how far down the rabbit hole this thing can go.

4. Which three bands most influenced you?

For this project, I’d say Queens of the Stone Age, Barkmarket, and Failure. But if you mean influenced like: “Why did you wanna play music”? Audio Adrenaline, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and The Tragically Hip.

5. What are your plans for the near future?

I’m hoping to put out another record next year, and set up some regional touring.

6. If there’s anything you would like to add, the last words are yours

Go find a new rock band, fall in love with them, and support them.
