Quick introductory interview

Interview with Loathing.
1. Who are you and how did the band get started?

I am Marios Batalias, the man behind Loathing, a one man Doom/Death metal project from Athens, Greece. The idea and finally the creation of Loathing happened after my departure from another Doom/Death metal band, Flesh Martyr. I felt the need to compose more music in this genre, being more free about the ideas and directions I wanted to follow, so I made a solo project, having other musicians sometimes as guests.

2. Why did you choose Doom, and how would you describe your style?

Doom and other subgenres, such as Doom/Death and Funeral Doom always fascinated me. The guttural vocals and the extreme slow tempos together with the soul crushing melodies and riffs, always sent chills down my spine, so it was only natural that I would find myself jamming some Candlemass tunes or digging for more aggressive Death/Doom metal in the likes of diSMEMBERED and Decomposed. My style is heavily influenced by the band Funeral from Norway, as well as My Dying Bride, Saturnus and Mourning Beloveth. However, I am trying to expand my horizons and incorporate other music styles as well, from the death and black metal genres.

3. What would you consider to be the high point of your career so far?

I think that the fact that I believed in myself and trusted my own powers to release an EP on my own was the high point of my career so far. However, it gets really frustrating being stuck with some riffs and parts and not having inspiration even for large periods of time, or being responsible for other matters of the project, such as the Artwork and projectís expenses like the recordings hours and the mixing/mastering process. I hope i will manage though and be in the pleasant position to deliver a Full Lengeth Album, which will add up and help expand the whole genre and even inspire other people, the same way i got inspired by other bands.

4. Which three bands most influenced you?

I would say My Dying Bride, Mourning Beloveth and Funeral, as mentioned above, played a big part during the recordings of my Debut EP "Dawn Of Mourning". However there are other bands nowadays that I feel they influence me, while trying to compose more dark and heavy music more into the Death metal genre, in the veins of Decomposed, diSEMBOWLEMENT and even Dead Congregation, combining it with my more melodic style.

5. What are your plans for the near future?

My "big plan" is to release a Full Length Album that people will really acknowledge, in the future using as many ideas, music styles and even musicians I can.

6. If there is anything you would like to add, the last words are yours.

If you, the person reading this, feel the need to create something that comes out from your heart and soul just do it. Believe in yourself and alone or with a full band just start jamming and composing material for the world to listen. Put aside any fears and pour your soul in the music.
