Arctic Sleep : Mare Vaporum (Demo)

Arctic Sleep comes from Chicago and describe their music as a mix between Sunn O))) and Phil Collins. They mostly stick to writing long songs, with 'Over The Antifreeze Rainbow' clocking in at almost 20 minutes. I really can’t pick a favorite song from this demo. If I had to though, I guess I’d choose 'Arden’s Countryside' since it’s the most metallic song (sounds very much like 'Mirror Of Deception') of the lot. However, that doesn’t mean that the rest isn’t any good.

The entire album is characterized by heavily distorted riffs that slowly give way to beautiful melodic guitar leads. They remind me of a heavier, but less demented, Neurosis with a dash of old Radiohead thrown in as well. Arctic Sleep is a very talented band that creates a soothing atmosphere with their music. When they recorded this demo, they only had two members and have since added two extra members to become a full-sized band. They have a lot of potential, and I guess you can expect great things from them in the future.
