| Sludge/Doom, Gothic/Doom Murkrat is the solo project of Mandy Andresen (vocalist for The Slow Death, Crone, and previously Lycanthia). Aside from the drum work, this is entirely her own creation. The music incorporates ominous alto vocals, rich organ and piano melodies, and haunting ambient sections into a dark/doom metal sound. The first album was a monotonous slog through blandly executed sludge, while Drudging the Mire provides a Gothic-tinged style of funeral doom metal. With a grotesque and extreme interpretation of Gothic/doom, the sound of Murkrat lies among a diverse range of bands including Abysmal Grief, Bloody Panda, and Virgin Black. |
