Atmospheric Doom, Avantgarde Doom
Arctic Sleep merges Atmospheric Doom/Drone, increasingly Progressive elements and Doomcore into a style which doesn't seem to have much to do with either of the two genres. It's mellow and sad, but with tiny hints of the more depressed tracks by Radiohead, Psychotica, Harvey Milk, Nine Inch Nails and Agalloch. This doesn't prevent the band from churning out both extremely heavy Pelicanish riffage and elements from Neurosis' doomiest side. It is even possible to draw a line to The Fall of Every Season. The final product is unusually light of mood to be doom metal, but that's merely because the sadness portrayed here is more in the vein of Canaan than of mourning or suicidal depression.
The band is primarily a solo project, with sole constant member being multi-instrumentalist Keith D. |
