Atmospheric Doom Kauan is a band from Chelyabinsk, a Russian city located east of the Uaral mountains. In other words a place a long way away from Finland. Even so the atmospheric doom of their first album ('Luuminkuro') is dominated by finnish folk music in the vein of Tenhi and the album 'Visor Om Slutet' (the non-metal folk album by Finntroll). The result can be thought of as an atmospheric combination of Agalloch, The Mist and the Morning Dew and a small portion of Woods of Ypres' most doomy moments. However, from the second album and onwards the band turned towards a mixture of post-rock, yet keeping the neo-folk influences and atmosphere. |
