Canada - Disbanded.
| Gothic/Doom, Black/Doom Formed in 2002 by mainstay and multi-instrumentalist David Gold, Woods of Ypres were a Canadian blackened doom band with strong, melodic songs. Acoustic passages herald doomy mid paced songs alongside faster elements of black metal. Clean vocals somewhere between Nick Holmes and Peter Steele contrast with a more traditional black metal growl. By the time the final album was released the bands sound and production had drawn closer to a more mainstream metal approach. The bands path was tragically cut short by the death of David Gold in an automobile accident in 2011. 'Woods 5: Grey Skies and Electric Light' was released posthumously in 2012. |
