Sludge/Doom, Atmospheric Doom
Though their music can be summed up as a blend of Sludge, Stoner, and Doom Metal, SubRosa take the style to atmospheric and hypnotic territories that aren't often reached within the genre. The main characteristics of their music include dreamy riffs that blare with reverb, elegant violin melodies that add a wintry atmosphere to the ensemble, and charismatic female singing that occasionally builds up to angry shouts and grunts. Though their music is heavy as a bulldozer, it also has the same tear-jerking effect one would experience from listening to My Dying Bride's most emotional tracks. Because of the band's ability to combine heaviness with an emotional atmosphere, SubRosa could be placed in a camp with bands like 40 Watt Sun, The River, or Warning. |
