Unholy

Finland - Disbanded.

Description

Death/Doom, Black/Doom

One of the lesser known bands to lead the revolution of extreme doom in Finland back in the 90's, alongside Skepticism and Thergothon. Dissonant guitars, hideous screams, bizarre clean vocals, and an overall unearthly atmosphere made Unholy's music a force to be reckoned with. While the first two albums made for a hallucinogenic and scary sounding blend of black/death/doom metal, later works showed the band going for a more straightforward and melancholic direction with a lead female vocalist. As a whole, the group's discography belongs in the collections of those who enjoy Esoteric, Dolorian and Bethlehem.

Misc

The 'Kill Jesus' demo was released under the original band name Holy Hell, formed in 1988. In 1990 they changed it to Unholy.

Band tensions led to a split in 1994, followed by a 1996 reformation that produced the second pair of full-length albums. A second disbandment in 2002 lasted until 2009, although this last reunion was only focused on live shows and finally ceased in 2012.
