Ligeia Wept

Australia - Active.

Description

Gothic/Doom

Originally formed around 2006, under the name Ashendusk, in Melbourne, the band remained something of a nebulous affair until it refocused in about 2017, under founder Alister Haskell. With the assistance of several now-permanent members and a number of guests, the debut album combined My Dying Bride narrative-styled lyrics with Theatre Of Tragedy-esque beauty-and-the-beast vocals, alongside classical and gypsy musical influences and literary references.

Misc

The band name was initially changed, briefly, to Ligeia, but became Ligeia Wept in 2019 to avoid confusion with other active Metal bands. The latter is a synthesis of the shortest phrase in the Bible, 'Jesus Wept', and the Poe character Ligeia, whose resurrection was the antithesis of Jesus'.
