Gothic/Doom Originally formed around 2006, under the name Ashendusk, in Melbourne, the band remained something of a nebulous affair until it refocused in about 2017, under founder Alister Haskell. With the assistance of several now-permanent members and a number of guests, the debut album combined My Dying Bride narrative-styled lyrics with Theatre Of Tragedy-esque beauty-and-the-beast vocals, alongside classical and gypsy musical influences and literary references. |

The band name was initially changed, briefly, to Ligeia, but became Ligeia Wept in 2019 to avoid confusion with other active Metal bands. The latter is a synthesis of the shortest phrase in the Bible, 'Jesus Wept', and the Poe character Ligeia, whose resurrection was the antithesis of Jesus'. |
