Quick introductory interview.

Interview with Apotelesma.
This interview was conducted when the band was still called Monuments. They changed their name in 2015 to avoid being mistaken for the UK band of the same name. Apotelesma is Latin, meaning 'the influence of the stars on human destiny'.

1. Who are you and how did the band get started?

We are Monuments from The Netherlands. We are a five-headed formation and were formed in early 2012. It all started with an idea of our drummer and vocalist to create a mixture of black and doom. They slowly brought together a formation with other musicians — now, a drummer, bassist, vocalist and two guitarists — and since that time Monuments is a 5-headed band.

2. Why did you choose Doom, and how would you describe your style?

We chose Doom because we like the melancholy and the heaviness of the style. Doom is a dynamic style that can suitably be combined with other styles. We create a mixture of black and doom with progressive elements. We like to experiment with different styles since we all like other music genres. For example, our drummer is really into doom metal and our bass player is also very much into old school rock music. We tend to combine lots of different elements into our music.

3. What would you consider to be the high point of your career so far?

That would definitely be the release of our first EP, called 'The December Sessions', and a couple of live shows we played with befriended bands. You can listen to The December Sessions on our Bandcamp. (Free downloads are available, as well as digipack CDs for €5.)

4. Which three bands most influenced you?

I guess Katatonia, Warning and Doom:VS.

5. What are your plans for the near future?

We are currently writing new material for a full-length release which we hope to record end 2014, and we are trying to play some shows in the near future. I think our main goal is to create atmospheric music that will appeal to fans in the genre.

6. If there is anything you would like to add, the last words are yours.

If you’re interested in a mixture between heaviness and melancholic black metal riffing, you should definitely give Monuments a listen. You can find us at: www.facebook.com/monumentsnl and www.monumentsnl.bandcamp.com. Stay heavy!
