Quick introductory interview.

Interview with Whispering Shadows.
1. Who are you and how did the band get started?

I’m Silencer, I’m from a very small village in the south of England. On a tiny island called “The Isle Of Sheppey” I have a one man band project called Whispering Shadows, The band got started in early 2013, After years of writing folk acoustic music I decided to try something different to which was more suited to my tastes of the time. Plus personally I was at a really low end so I needed an outlet so this is why Whispering Shadows was born. Initially it was meant to be an instrumental project but it soon became more as I started to use vocals after a few tracks were released and I have found that other than “Requiem” the instrumental tracks have been looked over and the ones that include vocals have been better received by those out there that have been kind enough to listen to my music.

2. Why did you choose Doom, and how would you describe your style?

I chose doom mainly because it felt right. There is such a beauty that comes with despair that in this form it really shines through and it has a certain honesty to it that really tugs are your heart strings and can pull you under this mortal world and just keep you still and staring for long periods of time. It has emotional/decadent/Evanescent and unwaveringly pure pieces of both music and words that swim in and out of your head and they last long after the song has finished. My style has been referred to as Atmospheric Doom/Black metal. I don’t honestly see the black metal connection but most of my fan base are black metal fans so I must be doing something that appeals to them. I’m a big fan of both the genres so this is very much a positive for me.

3. What would you consider to be the high point of your career so far?

Having both Kostas (From Pantheist) and Ian (From My Silent Wake) say my latest song (Unveil The Dreamcatcher) is good and interesting…The latest version of this song will feature on the next release of the same name and I am in talks with a new label who seem very interested to release this cd. No names just yet but the official Demo (Compendium Of Sorrow) was released by CVLMINIS records. I intend to remaster this cd as I felt this lacked proper production. It will be released at some point in the future on a Digi pack with a bonus track called (Funerium)

4. Which three bands most influenced you?

The Angelic Process, My Dying Bride, Matthew Good/Matthew Good Band

5. What are your plans for the near future?

To complete work on the latest album (Unveil The Dreamcatcher), release that and the reissue of the demo and hopefully play a show at some point. Also just to point out Ilya from Moscow's Flowers Of Pain is helping out with some of the new tracks on the new album so if anyone is familiar with them then they will know this is going to sound special. Although it’s a one man band project I have a few interested people wanting to take part in this. The only real confirmation I can give at this time is Bewitched from Narrow House. He will be taking on guitar duties for live shows. That in itself is something very special to me as I am a huge fan of both the early work and the later work.

6. If there is anything you would like to add, the last words are yours.

I just want to say thank you to anyone who reads this and checks out my band. I would love to be able to get out there to new people with new ideas and opinions on what it is I am doing. I don’t mind if you don’t like it or is you love it. I would love to hear from you. Also I would like to take this time to promote my podcast “The Withered Hands Podcast” that I run with both my partner Elizabeth and Aphonic Threnody/Arcana Coelestia/Urna front man RM.
