The Conqueror Worm : Your Time Will Come (Demo)

This demo from The Conqueror Worm demonstrates, but doesn't quite live up to, their talents.

The Conqueror Worm’s demo-debut falls a little short of great, but it is good. 'Your Time Will Come' has moments that make me want to love it, it also has moments where I get bored—not exactly a good attribute since it’s only only sixteen minutes long.

’Your Time Will Come starts out solid, but it doesn’t stay on track all the way through. The intro is a great one, and the excellent production of the album is revealed right away; every instrument and part can be heard clearly, including the bass riffs and their fills. The guitar also has a solid tone, and the drums pop in just the right way. The vocals are fitting, and performed well. At first, I thought the vocals would be my favorite aspect of ’Your Time Will Come, but on the second listen the effect wasn’t quite there. Despite this, though, The Conqueror Worm reveal themselves to be great players, and performance wise, I don’t feel anyone in the band is lacking anything.

But the songwriting falls short. There are instances where the progression of the tracks don’t flow; these are particularly during the “doom” riffs; The Conqueror Worm doesn’t pull off the down tempo parts. Save for the last track, these sections feel lazy, and don’t make for a good chorus on the opening song. Structure wise, the second song, ‘Fall On Your Sword’, is the most satisfying. The track itself is a bit on the faster side, and it hits a few Thrash and Heavy Metal moments, but it’s here particularly that I wish for more variety in the vocal delivery.

Though the performances were excellent, and the mix was great, I didn’t hear anything in the songs themselves that would make me come back to 'Your Time Will Come'. Keep your eyes open for The Conqueror Worm, though, there is a lot of talent there.
